What is induction heating?
Induction heating is the process of heating an electrically conducting object (usually a metal) by electromagnetic induction, through heat generated in the object by eddy currents. An induction heater consists of induction power supply (induction heater) and inductor (coil) that is a shaped to contour the part, and a work station where the part is held and presented to the coil.
Development of electromagnetic induction heating technology
Magnetic induction heating originates from the electromagnetic induction phenomenon discovered by Faraday, that is, alternating current will generate an induced current in the conductor, causing the ferrous and non ferrous metal to heat up.The rapid development of power electronic devices and technology in the 20th century has greatly promoted the development of induction heating technology.
The first induction heating device was developed by thyristor, nowadays the most popular ans stable electric components are IGBT MOSFET and SCR.IGBT and SCR are used in big power induction heating applications with low frequency, while MOSFET is used in higher frequency applications. It is usually used in small power applications of several kilowatts, and the frequency can reach more than 500Khz, or even several megahertz.
